Advent is defined simply as “the arrival of a notable person, thing, or event.” That seems like a fitting way to describe this season as we celebrate the coming of Jesus into the world.
The heart of God is one of always moving into the brokenness of our world, and in Advent, we celebrate God’s powerful arrival in a helpless baby. In our gatherings this month, we will look at the Scriptures that anticipate and describe the arrival of the Messiah, God’s chosen one who came to rescue and save. But I hope that his won’t just be a month of sentiment as we think about Christmas’s past. God is still rescuing and saving, and as we reflect on what God has done, I pray that we will be stirred to join in what God is still doing.
