From April 17-24, we will be joining Christians around the world in remembering Holy Week…the most sacred week of the Christian calendar. It begins with Palm Sunday, and ends with the celebration of the resurrection on Easter morning. Our church rhythms will be re-ordered as we celebrate. Here’s how it will look:
Sunday, April 17, 5pm – Weekly Gathering
For Palm Sunday, we will have our weekly gathering at the usual time on Sunday evening. For our time together, we will reflect on some of Jesus’ words found in John 15-16. These were his words to the disciples during their final evening together before his arrest.
Thursday, April 21, 6pm – Passover Seder
The Passover was a significant Jewish holiday, and it was during this feast that Jesus introduced what we now call the Last Supper. We will share a Passover meal, with an understanding of how Jesus worked the wine and the bread into the meal. When we see communion from the context of the Jewish Passover in which it started, it gives us a rich perspective on this church practice.
Sunday, April 24, 10am – Easter Gathering
On Easter Sunday, we will move our gathering (for one week only) to mid-morning and share lunch together afterward. We won’t do a sunrise service, but it also doesn’t seem right to wait until evening to celebrate the resurrection!
If you have not been part of our church community, but you would like to participate in any of these gatherings, you are welcome. Please contact us to let us know you are coming so we can account for you as we plan our meals for each event.
