Sunday Community Dinner

We meet every Sunday at 5pm in the Activity Center at Faith Lutheran Church for
Sunday Community Dinner

Jesus often shared meals with people. These meals became sacred space for connection, teaching, and worship as well as social gatherings. That’s why we’re embracing Sunday Community Dinner as a return to the early church’s simplicity, where worship, prayer, and Scripture come alive in conversation over a shared meal.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • A family-style dinner (no pressure to bring anything because we're providing the food!)

  • Conversations about Jesus where all are welcome and everyone’s voice matters.

  • Lots of noise and kids are welcome. We are planning for all ages!

Why Sunday Community Dinner?

  • It’s what Jesus did. At Austin Mustard Seed we aspire to "practice the way of Jesus." Jesus shared meals with all kinds of people during his life. He turned ordinary tables into sacred spaces.

  • It’s relational. Food disarms us and makes space for conversations and relationships to deepen. Around the table we can learn from each other, build friendships, and remove loneliness.

  • It’s missional. This format makes space to invite others. It's an opportunity to meet both the physical and spiritual needs of people we know and many who we will meet.

Join us! This is an invitation to community and to practice the way of Jesus with others. Come hungry!

FAQ's

At Sunday Community Dinner we gather in the Activity Center (which is a church gym!). Someone will greet you at the door and help you figure out where to go. We'll share a meal prepared by volunteers in our community while we talk about our week. There will be prayers, something for the kids, time to explore scripture, pray for each other, and share Eucharist together. Finally we'll be sent out to take God's love into our homes, neighborhoods, schools, and workplaces.
